Indycar Racing 1

After the relative success of Indy 500 The Simulation Papyrus went on to create the first officially licensed racing simulator that was based on the IndyCar series. The game was very well received by critics and fans. It had sold around 300.000 copies ten years after its release.

IndyCar fans and racing sim fanatics all over the world took a liking to IndyCar Racing for its realistic portrayal of racing on the combination of ovals, roadcourses and street circuits that IndyCar was (and still is) known for.

The original game only had eight tracks from the official calendar but this was expanded with the IndyCar Racing Track Pack released in 1994. This added the 7 tracks Cleveland, Mid-Ohio, Vancouver, Phoenix, Elkhart Lake, Surfers Paradise and Detroit, as well as a tool to edit replays.

In a separate expansion pack (also released in 1994) the biggest omission from the game was added: the world famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. That expansion also added a paintkit, so users could create their own liveries for the game.

IndyCar Racing never had a large modding community, mainly because the internet was still pretty much in its infancy and not very interactive yet, but also because of the release of the game's successor Indycar Racing 2 in 1995.
